Lockhart Creek

With the first real messy weather of the fall season in the forecast, friends Kari, Pete, Cam and myself decided to make the most of the last dry day and ride a Kootenay epic: Lockhart Creek. We ferried across Kootenay Lake, shuttled up to Gray Creek Pass then rode down the other side, climbed again and five hours later arrived at the head of Lockhart Creek. From there it was a 1500m single-track descent on the mountain bikes. A little rough at first, the trail eventually smoothed out and offered some high-speed cruising on a refreshingly mellow grade through some nice older forest. The roots were pretty slick, which is perhaps a prelude to the wet weather in the forecast. Here’s a shot of Cam crossing Lockhart Creek.

On another note, hockey season started tonight so stay tuned for some hockey blogs. Yes, we won- but it was only exhibition game so not really worth writing about. Otherwise, post-games are the ideal time to stay up late and write these blogs…
