The Bird Report

As many of you know, I double as a biologist- mostly studying birds. I’ve been fortunate enough to develop a great relationship with the Nature Conservancy of Canada and have been involved with their Tatlayoko Lake Bird Observatory since its inception in ‘06. Each winter I sit down to write the annual report.

Here is the 2010 report (pdf draft). I try my best to make it as reader-friendly as possible with lots of photos and interesting bird facts.

Also, this is a special thanks to NCC for being patient with the delivery of this document. It has been an epic winter and this little video describes my report-writing experience quite clearly.

Icefall Lodge

Icefall Lodge is a ski touring hut located in the BC Rockies.

Owner and guide Larry Dolecki has set up a playground of epic proportions, making this my favourite ski touring lodge of all time. In fact, last week at Icefall probably rates as my best week of skiing ever. I declared that on Thursday, and then it proceeded to snow 90cm. The video will be up in a couple of weeks (saving it for a slideshow night). Larry now has two satellite huts (Lyell and Mons) up amid the high peaks that allow skiers and climbers to link up Alp-like traverses and peak-bagging missions. I highly recommend this place, especially for late season when conditions can allow you to ski a couple of the classic 7000’+ runs available in the area.
